Samarjit Lankesh, the son of director Indrajit Lankesh and the grandson of writer-filmmaker P Lankesh, is making his debut in Kannada cinema with the movie Gowri. Scheduled for release on August 15, the film also introduces Saanya Iyer to the Kannada film industry. In an interview with Bangalore Times, Samarjit talks about his passion for cinema from a young age, the challenges he faced as a newcomer, and his experience working alongside his father.

Samarjit shares his journey into cinema, expressing his fascination with the allure of the silver screen and his admiration for actors Puneeth Rajkumar and Sudeep, which inspired him to pursue acting. He broadened his knowledge of filmmaking at the New York Film Academy and gained hands-on experience in camera work, acting, and directing short films with friends. His involvement in theater, assisting director Yogaraj Bhat, training in stunts with Chethan Dsouza, and learning dance from Murali master all contributed to his preparation for his role in Gowri.

Transitioning from a child artist to a lead actor brought a greater sense of responsibility and dedication to Samarjit, prompting him to approach his work with sincerity. He believes that the character he portrays in Gowri provides an opportunity to showcase his versatility as an actor, with the role having various layers that required him to immerse himself in the Mandya Kannada dialect and master dance and stunt sequences.Samarjit describes how starring in Gowri allowed him to demonstrate his acting abilities.
